Mother's day

Yay for Mother's day! My sweet son and husband got me a Garmin Forerunner 10 and a the most awesome invention ever- a mister (a la theme park) for next to my pool lounge chair -Heaven I say!

I've tried out the Garmin once and I'm excited to use it for my 10k this weekend & it sure beats lugging my phone with me!

Its pool time again!

For those who are not native Floridians pool days may stretch year-round on your visits to our lovely state, but for a thin blooded Miami girl- no way. Not that I don't relish in the fact that I was laying out pool side mid January but the icy depths of my little pool remained untouched until yesterday. Hooray! I was able to get ALL the way in, the water was still a bit chilly for me but the 90 degree air temp made up for that.

With pool time back that means in water cross training. I love pool workouts! I am like wonder woman in the pool 100 crunches- no problem (on land 20 and I'm dying). Hopefully actually doing some cross training, rather than just thinking about it will help improve my run time. This week I have not gotten much mileage in yet a 3 mile and 1.6 mile so far tomorrow I will try to get in at least 5 if I can get out the door early enough. The Women for Women 10k is right around the corner and I would really like to finish in under 1:15.

It's not prety

I am really bad at the whole blogging thing. I just am. Running, just a step above the bad blogging. I am in not a natural runner, every step take effort. A lot of effort. I watch other runners breeze by with gazelle like strides, looking like a Nike ad. Me=trainwreck.

I am a determined girl though, so I will tread on as ugly as it may be.

I've gotten a few races in and have the Women for Women 10k next month. I am hoping to get a decent time since RunDisney has announced the "Glass Slipper Challenge" for the 2014 Princess Half.

Today I opted for a 3 mile walk on the beach rather than a run. I worked 'till 2am so I was pretty beat. The beach was spectacular today overcast and not blazing hot. I really need to take advantage of living in Florida more.

Its dark out

Time change. Monday. Ugh. While I do love DST this morning was a rough. I'm not a morning person as it is so the darkness of 7 am today made it so hard to get out of bed. I am definitely in the running for the bad mommy award for mornings. My child - knowing how bad I am- gets up gets dressed & makes breakfast for himself every day. Granted I work till 2 am but still, how crappy am I.
We do make it to school on time though, so that should at least give me a couple points right?

Ran 3.5 miles this am with average pace of 11:52. Nice day, easy run -can't ask for much more than that.

Pixie Dust any one?

So I will be the first to admit that I am not a Disney fanatic. I don't have any Mickey sweatshirts, Goofy hats or even a single snow globe. I do enjoy Disney though. Being a Florida native I have spent my fair share of time in the parks. From my first trip with my mom in go-go boots and me in my metal stroller( all sweaty with Mickey pop schmeared all over my face) to a field trip to Epcot with my sons second grade class and countless times in between.

I am , however, finding it hard not to get caught up in the RunDisney craze and thoughts of running through the castle with a tutu and a tiara suddenly seem like a really good idea. I'll admit I have signed up for the Princess Half Marathon before, with full intention of running it but I was sidelined by a shoulder injury, surgery and then just life. So here it is March 2013 and I am chomping at the bit to register for next years race. All the pictures of smiling faces, waving hands and shiny medals from this years race are just fueling my fire.

RunDisney meet ups, race retreats, Minnie Mouse sneakers I want them all! What has happened to me??!! Have I lost my mind at 40-possibly! I only hope I can find some one to drag along with me as I will not torture my husband with this one -he agreed to run the Tower of Terror 10 miler with me I'm not going to push it :)

A Disney non-fanatic confession... I have one of these...

Yes a cast member name tag. Albeit a Disney Store cast member but one none the less. Oh and be sure to notice my coveted "ears of service"! I admit it I worked at the Disney store, and I loved it- every minute until Disney shut our doors. A large part of the time I was there we were not actually owned by Disney but were bought back by them not long before our store closed. I was really sad, it was a just a part time thing I did around my ER schedule but it was so fun, even with the hideous uniforms! If there were one near me now I would go back in a heartbeat.

So maybe there is a little, just little, bit of fanatic in me. But I will never buy a snow globe.

Half days

11:15 dismissal. This is what our county considers a half day. Why bother? Why on a Thursday and not Friday? I'm sure there are logical reasonable answers to these questions but in the grand scheme of things it really is a pain in the butt. Oh and part of the day is lunch.

It is rare that I have so many days off in a row and I should be thankful that I'll have more time with the boy today before I return to the depths of hell tomorrow. Florida, cold weather (anything under 80 ) and the ER really don't mix .I have a feeling the next couple days are going to be ugly, just plain ugly.

The Color Me Rad race is just over a week away, should be a fun time, especially since the "race" part really does not exist. We plan on wearing N95 respirators, all I need is a 10yr old with cornstarch induced pneumonia, I only wish we had planned a little better and got T-shirts for our team - RXpushERs  get it? hilarious right? well maybe just to us!

off for a quick run (unlike above, Florida, cold weather and running are awesome)

and so it begins...

When I turned 39 I decided the whole year would be dedicated to being "Fit for 40" . My goal was to get in shape, loose the flab and wear a bikini on my birthday. Which I did, living in South Florida swimwear in October is perfectly acceptable! Now at 40, which I'm convinced is the new 20, I need a new goal or its back to pop tarts & soap operas. I decided 2013 is the year I will become a runner. I have run in the past, heck I even played college soccer but have never considered being a runner. I'm a long way out from being  that runner, but golly I'm gonna take a stab at it. I know running is uber cool these days which is another huge factor. I won't lie, I'm ok with shamelessly following the trend of hipsters, moms with lululemon sports bras and $1000 jogging strollers, and Disney fanatics. Don't expect me to go get one of those strollers though, I don't think my 10 year old would appreciate being crammed in one.
